Assignment 3 in this week LA.
- Look at the following 7-eleven logos and consider their shape, form and simplicity of design. The way they communicate and are recognizable.

The way they are recognizable for me is for the first the color use. They use the green, orange and red color. When I see these colors, I think of 7-eleven.
There are a combination of a number and letters in the logo. The shape is smallest on the bottom and gets bigger on the top, like the shape of the number seven. This shape is used in the logo on the left, the white part. The white part in the logo, the background, can also look like a coffee cup.
They communicate their opening hours in this logo, I think. They are open seven days a week, until 11 o’clock. Very simple name and logo, yet it works.
2. Identify. In your own words explain what you consider 7-Eleven’s individual Gestalt principle to be. Describe the logo and put it into its own category.
I consider the 7 eleven logo to be the proximity gestalt principle. Proximity principle is when something is close together, we think that they are related. Like the 7-eleven logo, it’s a number and some letters close together and we immediately think they are related.
Like I wrote in the last task about the Gestalt Principles, it can be a bit confusing, because one thing or logo can be more than one principles.
I see that this logo also can be the Gestalt Principle Closure. We can see in the logo’s number 7 that it’s not really a number, but some lines and forms with gaps and the letters cutting it, but the brain fills the gaps make it looks like a filled number 7.
3. Pick any 3 gestalt principles and recreate 3 versions of the 7-Eleven logo according to your chosen principle. Be creative and innovative with how you do it. Sketch, plan, do it by hand before digitally creating your favourite in a vector format.
This task was a bit hard to do. To implement the Gestalt Principles and creating a new logo was not easy to do. It gets a bit hard when you have restrictions and then have to be creative with that. But I started to sketch just small things, looked up some inspiration online. Refresh the Gestalt Principles knowledge I got from the last task. Here you can see some sketches I did.

Then I picked three Gestalt Principles and did one recreation of the 7-eleven logo with that. When I was done with that, I chose my favourite and did it in Illustrator. This time around I did so much better in Illustrator, so I didn´t use a week just to make this in Illustrator. Now it was fun! And I can´t wait to make more in there. The logo I made in Illustrator is the 7-Eleven logo, recreated, and with the Gestalt Principle Proximity.

For this learning activity I saw the videos on Lynda, read the chapter in the book Logo Design Workbook: A Hands-On Guide to Creating Logos: by Terry Stone, Noreen Morioka Sean Adams: Logo Development. And did some research on the internet.
