This week learning activities is about idea development.
In the Learning Activity nr. 3 we were given a teaspoon as an object, and had to apply each one of the SCAMPER techniques to it, and explain the new products that comes out of it.
This task was a bit hard to do, because I had to use all nine of the techniques to it, but what I came up with was the Fitscoop at the end.
I started with a regular spoon. And thought from there.
- Substitute something
Substitute the material with plastic.
- Combine it with something else.
With my breakfast I use several ingredients and mix together. So I thought of a spoon with a spoon on both sides so that I don´t have to use two spoons, only one. Two in one spoon. Saves the planet and the dishwasher.
- Adapt something to it.
If you are a fitness person like me and taking you nutrition seriosly, you weigh your food every day. Here I thought of combining a spoon with a digital weight on the spoon, so I can weigh the food right on the spoon. Also make one head on the spoon bigger. One side you eat with and the other side to weigh the foods.
- Modify or Magnify it.
Here I will have the spoon in different colors. So it fits for boys and girls, and you can choose the color you love. Make it more fun.
- Put it to some other use.
Here I started of with a teaspoon you can eath with or stire something. But now my idea is to take the teaspoon and make it as a Fitness food tool instead.
- Eliminate something.
Here I eliminate the one spoonhead so it´s just one big spoonhead with a digital weigh on the scaft.
- Reverse or Rearrange it.
I use hard plastic as a material, because I need a digital thing in it and a small battery. And I will cover it with silicone so that it is dishwasher proof, and the silicone last longer. So I started with a teaspoon, and ended up with a tool for measuring foods. Perfect for Fitness people who weigh their foods. Easy and stylish.
This fitness spoon is something that every fitness people needs in their kitchen, as well as in the gym bag when they are on the go.
And here is a sketch of the FitScoop.

Question 3
Rice package
You have to design packaging for rice. The packaging has to be different from what is out there in the market. Apply each one of the SCAMPER techniques and do a write-up on your findings. Then choose the option that you think would work best and do a sketch of what the packaging would look like.
This task was very hard to do. I used a long time to just figuire out how to use SCAMPER to this, and all of the nine methods. But as I got started the prosess got easier.
Substitute something – I will substitute the traditional cardboard boxes, with plastic to make the jar last longer, and minimums the waist.
Combine it with something – I will combine the rice package with a measure cup also. So you have the measurement unit right next to the rice.
Adapt – I will adapt the measurement cup underneath the rice package. So it´s stuck on the jar when you don´t use it, you don’t lose it.
Modify or Magnify – Here I will change the shape, make it round or cylinder, so it´s easy to grab out of the cabinet with only one hand.
Put it to some other use – The rice packaging’s measurement cup can also be used to measure up other things like water to go with the rice, and other things when you cook.
Eliminate something – Here I want to eliminate the first idea where you can buy a plastic jar with rice and with a measure cup underneath, to make it a product where you buy a refill bag when you need more rice on the jar. So you don´t have to buy a new jar every time you have used all the rice.
Reverse or rearrange – I will rearrange it and put the measurement cup on top of the jar. So that the measurement cup is the lid on the jar.
And here is a sketch on how my rice packaging would look like. The jar will be transparent so you can see how much rice is left, and it will have a small decor on it.
